Nanyuki, Kenya

Nanyuki is a small town located west of Mount Kenya; the heartland of the country, and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Traditionally inhabited by several tribes, the region is particularly susceptible to the global climate crisis.

United by their passion for conservation, youth empowerment and social change in the beautiful interior region of Mount Kenya, our heroes come from a background of activism and leadership.

They are seeding a regional ecosystem of Gigatonne Teams among their networks, while collaborating with local farmers to turn food waste from the market into “brown gold” organic compost to nurture their crops.

The Nanyuki Team are all environmental activists and movement leaders in Kenya, with a shared interest in building leadership capacity among young people in the Mt Kenya network region and tackling the environmental issues in their region.
